Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about controls, features, accuracy, and local browser saving.

How does this online instrument tuner detect pitch?
The tuner accesses your device's microphone securely using the HTML5 MediaDevices API and runs a mathematical autocorrelation pitch-detection algorithm in real time to calculate the fundamental frequency of your vibrating string.
Is my audio uploaded or recorded anywhere?
No, absolutely not. All audio analysis is performed 100% locally in your browser's memory. Audio buffers are discarded immediately after computing frequency and are never recorded or sent to any server.
What instruments are supported?
Presets are included for Standard Guitar (E2, A2, D3, G3, B3, E4) and Standard Ukulele (G4, C4, E4, A4). You can also use Chromatic Mode to tune bass, violin, cello, banjo, or vocal pitch across all 12 musical notes.
What do the cents numbers mean?
Cents measure musical pitch intervals. One semitone equals 100 cents. A pitch within ±3 cents of the target note is considered perfectly in tune and will illuminate in vibrant green.
